PERFORMANCE

Gaosong has been acting professionally since the age of 16 with local theater companies across the state of Minnesota, as well as having aided local theater companies in workshopping and putting on staged readings of brand new works. As a vocalist and musician, Gaosong has received both local and international recognition for her music. Classically trained for over 15 years, Gaosong received 12 awards at the state level in Minnesota within her 4 years of high school. As well, Gaosong’s first CD, titled “Tsev Neeg Kev Hlub” (The Love of a Family) debuted at the age of 16 which has given her the opportunity to perform all over the U.S, as well as in Laos, Thailand, Spain, France and French Guiana.

Not only has she had the opportunity to sing internationally, she has also had the honor to play her qeej (a Hmong bamboo reed instrument) for audiences all over the world. Historically, the qeej has been denied to women and is an instrument reserved for men. However, at the young age of 15, Gaosong knew the importance of this instrument to the preservation and expression of her culture and demanded to take lessons at a local Hmong Cultural Center in St. Paul, MN. In 2010, Gaosong would go to compete for Miss Hmong Minnesota, where she would place 2nd (1st Runner Up) and receive the award of “Best Talent” for singing and playing her qeej to a crowd of thousands.

Pre-COVID, Gaosong frequently performed for community events and organizations, however she has most recently focused her time on rehearsing for “The Late Homecomer” presented by Literature to Life, a one-woman show set to premiere in New York City, Spring of 2021.
